Exhibitions

Friday was a big day for applications!
Was involved in two proposals for exhibitions at Kudos gallery, as well as an application for GAS (Grants, Awards and Sponsorship) for an online emergent art gallery. Please keep your fingers crossed for all three! :)

Details of the exhibitions are as follows:

  • “Material Satisfaction” - A showcase exhibition for the whole 2nd year Sculpture, Performance, and Installation group. I’ve uploaded both the Conceptual proposal (Adobe PDF) and the Artists’ statements (Adobe PDF). Some may be interested to check out my statement for an idea of the conceptual side of things. I have also included annotation on a few of the artist’s statements.
  • Biopolitics Exhibition - This focusses on the intersection of nature and technology, whether taken literally or in terms of Foucault’s understanding of techniques of biopolitical control. Should be exciting, and promisses to be very interesting!

Panarborcon

flickr set example

At the end of the winter holiday I started work on a computer interface/interactive installation made of wood. I don’t normally do much traditional sculpture, and it turned out to be great working with the wood :) I finished it just as the new semester was starting and had it in one of the tryout gallery spaces for about a week. Fantastically, I’ve been invited to show it at an upincoming exhibition at the Australian Galleries!

Briefly, here’s what it does; a soft diffused display is set up which shows a view from the centre of a forest - birds, a breaze, and other ambient sound can be heard, that was recorded at the site. A roughly carved wooden ball in two hemispheres sits in front of the display, and spinning the top hemisphere moves the view of the forest. It goes seemlessly through 360.

I’ve stuck up some images of it on wonderful flickr, and hopefully quite soon I’ll stick up some exhibiton shots too. Toying with the idea of including my planning notes/scribbles/blue-prints in the set too, once I get them scanned. I think seeing the process might be fun.

Note: Panarborcon is a working title till I think of something better… Though it is quite descriptive.

World turns, times change

The world has changed so much since last post!

New house, new semester, sad changes in relationships… Ah well. At the moment it is onwards and upwards. I’ve got a lot of things to work on :)

More of that to come..
