Panarborcon
2 years, 11 months agoAt the end of the winter holiday I started work on a computer interface/interactive installation made of wood. I don’t normally do much traditional sculpture, and it turned out to be great working with the wood
I finished it just as the new semester was starting and had it in one of the tryout gallery spaces for about a week. Fantastically, I’ve been invited to show it at an upincoming exhibition at the Australian Galleries!
Briefly, here’s what it does; a soft diffused display is set up which shows a view from the centre of a forest - birds, a breaze, and other ambient sound can be heard, that was recorded at the site. A roughly carved wooden ball in two hemispheres sits in front of the display, and spinning the top hemisphere moves the view of the forest. It goes seemlessly through 360.
I’ve stuck up some images of it on wonderful flickr, and hopefully quite soon I’ll stick up some exhibiton shots too. Toying with the idea of including my planning notes/scribbles/blue-prints in the set too, once I get them scanned. I think seeing the process might be fun.
Note: Panarborcon is a working title till I think of something better… Though it is quite descriptive.
